Meet our selected expertsJasminka Horvatić, Ph.D
Psychology professor, clinical psychologistJasminka Horvatić graduated in Psychology and Informatics from Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences of the University of Zagreb, obtaining her Master’s and PhD there as well. She was awarded the ‘Marulić: Fiat Psychologia’ Acknowledgement for distinctively valuable contribution to the development and promotion of applied psychology in Croatia.
She also participated in and finished several psychotherapy and counselling workshops and trainings. For more than 30 years she has been practicing her own efficient psychotherapy model for treating oncology patients and those diagnosed with PTSP. She carried out numerous research projects on the psychological functioning in such patients. Today she does partner, marital and family therapy and counselling.
Horvatić has worked as a permanent court expert since 2003, as well as a mentor to court experts in training. She performs the role of an educator for judges, lawyers and court experts with the main focus in the field of social skills and psychopathology.
She takes special interest in psychodiagnostics, therapy and counselling for both children and adults – the gifted and not, professional- and work-ability evaluation, the partner and parenting competencies, people diagnosed with autoimmune diseases, motoric disorders or chronic patients, as well as in employees with workplace issues. In her office she treated more than one hundred thousand adults and more than five thousand children.
For many years, Horvatić has been the Head of the Department for the psychology of children with developmental disabilities and of the disabled at the Croatian Psychological Association. She is also a member of numerous Croatian and international professional organisations.
She published dozens of professional and scientific works, participated in and executed twelve projects. Horvatić acts as a reviewer of books and professional articles for three different professional journals. She held lectures as an organizer and guest speaker in numerous Croatian and international conferences, but carried out different workshops for non-psychologists as well. She worked as an external lecturer for various classes at the Faculty of Education and Rehabilitation Sciences and at the Department of Social Work Studies Centre of the Faculty of Law in Zagreb.
Luka Modrić, MSc
MS in Psychology, Psychology professorLuka Modrić holds a Master’s degree of Psychology and is a Psychology professor, focusing on Organisational Psychology and People Management.
He also works as a chartered psychologist and is a member of Croatian Psychology Chamber, member of Croatian Psychology Association and a Chartered Assessment and Development Centre expert.
When it comes to his professional experience, he gained 20 years of working practice in mid- & top-level executive searches and management audits on local and regional level. He has experience in the field of human capital management in 1000+ employee environment, as well as in corporate change management with focus on people. He is also experienced in interim HR management.
His consulting focuses on local and regional executive search. It also includes management assessment and career counselling. Modrić offers the implementation of advanced HR processes and organization, as well as M&A projects.
Irma Barišić, MSc
Clinical psychologistIrma Barišić graduated in psychology at the Croatian Studies, University of Zagreb, Department of Psychology in 2007.
After graduating from college, she started working at the Polyclinic for Child and Adolescent Psychiatry of the University of Medicine Clinic for Child Diseases in Zagreb, where she has been working for the last 14 years. After many years of gaining knowledge and experience, she gained the status of a clinical psychologist.
In addition to her basic university education, she also completed a postgraduate specialist study “Psychological Counseling” at the Faculty of Philosophy in Rijeka and acquired the title of University Specialist in Psychological Counseling. She has actively participated in several international and domestic congresses in the field of psychology. Prof. Barišić is co-author of several professional papers in the field of child and adolescent psychology.
In hers work, prof. Barišić conducts daily psychodiagnostics that includes testing of psychomotor, cognitive development and specific neurodevelopmental disorders in children and adolescents. As part of hers work, she provides counseling to children, adolescents and their parents / guardians regarding educational procedures, developmental difficulties, and behavioral and emotional disorders. She prefers cognitive-behavioral therapeutic orientation in working with children and adolescents.
Anamaria Balić, MD, MSc
ImunodermatologistShe was born and raised in Zagreb, where she attended XV. high school for science and mathematics and in the period 2006-2012. year, Faculty of Medicine, University of Zagreb. She performed her professional medical student internship as a scholarship holder in foreign cities such as Innsbruck, Montreal and Atlantic City. She passed the professional state exam in 2013, in the same period as she took USMLE Step 1.
From 2014 to 2018, as a specialist at KBC Zagreb, he specialized in dermatology and venereology at the Clinic for Dermatovenerology, where he still works today. She enrolled in the University postgraduate study “Biomedicine and Health” at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Zagreb in 2015, and in 2017 the University accepted the topic of her doctoral dissertation in the field of wound targeting and prevention of hypertrophic scars. During and after the specialization, she actively and passively participates in various domestic and foreign congresses and continuously improves his professional skills in areas she already deals with, such as inflammatory skin diseases, dermatoscopy and cosmetology.
Already as a young specialist she showed interest in rare inflammatory diseases of the hair follicle such as hydradenitis suppurativa (HS), so she participated in the formation and actively works in the clinic for HS Clinic for Dermatovenerology UHC Zagreb, which treats this most sensitive group of dermatological patients.
In addition to his daily medical practice, she is actively involved in scientific research and is the author and co-author of about twenty papers in indexed journals. She is a member of the Croatian Dermatovenerological Society HLZ, the European Association of Dermatovenerologists (EADV), the International Dermoscopic Society (IDS), the European Hydradenitis Suppurative Association (EHSF) and the Croatian Society of Aesthetic Medicine
Jure Murgić, MD, Ph.D
Attending clinical oncologistSince 2009, he has been a specialist in radiotherapy and oncology at the Clinic for Oncology and Nuclear Medicine of the KBC Sestre milosrdnice in Zagreb, where he still works today. He studied at several institutions abroad. During 2011-2012 and 2014-2015 he visited the United States (University of Michigan Health System, Ann Arbor) and Canada (Princess Margaret Hospital – University Health Network, Toronto) as a researcher and clinician in innovative treatment of genitourinary tumors, prostate cancer genetics and brachytherapy. In Canada, he graduated with a Clinical Fellowship in Genitourinary Oncology and worked as a radiotherapy oncologist on a multidisciplinary team at Princess Margaret Hospital in Toronto. He received the 2016 American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) annual award for his work on prostate genomics.
He received his PhD from the Medical Faculty of the University of Zagreb in 2017. on the use of magnetic resonance imaging in brachytherapy of prostate cancer (collaboration with the University of Toronto). He is a postdoctoral fellow at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Zagreb.
He has published more than 40 articles in relevant international journals and has participated in the organization of several regional professional and scientific conferences. He has received several awards for his research work, most notably the ASCO Merit Award for Best Work presented at the 2016 Annual Congress of Genitourinary Oncologists of the American Association of Clinical Oncology. He has developed a smartphone app for prostate cancer patients that helps them learn about the disease and treatment options.
His narrow area of interest is genitourinary tumors – with an emphasis on prostate, bladder and kidney cancer, targeted tumor therapy and the development of genetic biomarkers.
He is a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), the American Society of Radiotherapy Oncology (ASTRO), the American Society of Brachytherapy (ABS) and the Croatian Oncological Society (HOK).
He is a lecturer at the Polytechnic of Health and the Faculty of Medicine, University of Zagreb.
Andrej Pal, MD, MSc
Clinical radiologist, interventional radiology sub-specialistAndrej Pal graduated from The Faculty of Medicine in Zagreb in 1986. Today he is a member of various Croatian and Austrian medical societies and chambers.
He performed his internship at the General Hospital Čakovec in the period from 1986 to 1987, which he completed by passing the specialist exam. The following two years Pal worked in the Emergency Medical Service of the Medical Centre Čakovec. From 1990 to 1993, he specialised in Clinical Radiology, partly at the Čakovec County Hospital and partly at the Clinic for Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology, a part of the Clinical hospital centre Rebro in Zagreb.
In addition to the status of an interventional radiology subspecialist, the same year he was recognized as a clinical professor, as well as the status of a sub specialization in ultrasound.
Simultaneously with his regular work, he is participating in several international projects concerning the testing of new drugs, especially those for diseases of the neurological system.
In 2017, he transferred to work at the University Hospital of Graz, Austria, at the Clinic of Neuroradiology and Interventional Radiology as a specialist radiologist and interventional radiologist.
Hrvoje Vavro MD, Ph.D
Clinical radiologist, interventional radiology sub-specialist, neuroradiology sub-spetialistHrvoje Vavro graduated from the School of Medicine, University of Zagreb, in 1997. He is currently employed as an attending radiologist-neuroradiologist at the University Hospital Dubrava in Zagreb, as well as a teleradiology consultant-neuroradiologist at Telemedicine Clinic, Barcelona.
After he had completed the compulsory post graduate intership and passed the State Exam, Vavro was a GP all over Sisak-Moslavina County.
From 2000 to 2004 he was a radiology resident at the general hospital in Sisak and at the Sisters of Mercy University Hospital in Zagreb. After a 3 year as a general radiologist at Sisak General Hospital he went on to Univeristy Hospital Dubrava to pursue further diagnostic and interventional education and work in neuroradiology, becoming a Board certified neuroradiologist in 2010. In 2011 he acquired the European Diploma in Neuroradiology. Earlier that year he had spent several months in the USA as a researcher involved in several neuroradiological projects.
On several occasions he worked for a short periods of time as a consultant neuroradiologist at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast and the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Glasgow, United Kingdom.
He has been using telemedicine to work for radiology departments at several Croatian general county hospitals for a number of years. Contributing to clinical studies has been a part of his work for a long time now.
He has authored and co-authored several book chapters and articles, both in Croatian and in English, as well as co-authored a book named “Neuroradiology: Expect the Unexpected” (Springer, 2018). He has attended a number of congresses and meetings, as a lecturer, invited lecturer or passive participant, and is a member of a number of Croatian and international medical and specifically radiological societies.
Mirjana Flegarić-Bradić, MD, MSc
Clinical radiologist, ESNR neuroradiology sub-specialistMirjana Flegarić-Bradić graduated from the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Zagreb in 2001. Today she is a member of Croatian, European and Swedish Neuroradiology Society.
In 2003 she began her specialization in Radiology, while six years later she passed her specialist exam. She started her subspecialisation in Neuroradiology at the Clinical Hospital Merkur in 2013, which she successfully completed two years later.
Flegarić-Bradić started working at the Koprivnica General Hospital, where she continued her career after having passed her state exam. In Koprivnica she also worked at the Emergency department. There she even worked as a radiology specialist at the Radiology department. In 2010 she transferred to University hospital Merkur where she worked as a radiology specialist at the at the Clinic for Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology of Clinical Hospital Merkur.
Five years later she became a neuroradiology subspecialist there.During her studies, Flegarić-Bradić became a member of the European Medical Student Association (EMSA). She acted as a bord member of the first student congress, the so-called Zagreb International Medical Summit (ZIMS 2001). During her professional career, she often participated in the organization of various congresses and workshops, such as the 5th Croatian-Slovenian–Hungarian Radiological Symposium held in Koprivnica in 2003.
She is a co-author of many professional and scientific works on hospital-documentation standards, quality standards of hospital healthcare, methods of liver transplantation and possible complications after the procedure itself.
Maja Grubelić Crnčević, MD, MSc
Clinical radiologist, USMB sub-specialistMaja Grubelić Crnčević graduated in Medicine from The Faculty of Medicine at the University of Zagreb in 2006.
Afterwards, she successfully completed a postgraduate course in Sport medicine at the Clinical Hospital for Traumatology in Zagreb. In 2007 her one-year internship at Clinical Hospital Merkur ended, followed by passing the state exam. The period from 2009 to 2013 Grubelić Crnčević dedicated to her specialisation in clinical radiology at the Clinical Hospital Merkur, as a part of which she completed a professional postgraduate study in Clinical Radiology at the Faculty of Medicine in Zagreb. In 2016 Grubelić Crnčević started her 2-year subspecialist training in the field of ultrasound at the Clinic for Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology of Clinical Hospital Centre Rebro.
She has been working as a clinical radiology specialist in Clinical hospital Merkur since 2013, she gained experience in the field of all diagnostic modalities (mammography, X-ray, ultrasound, CT, MRI), with her expertise in breast and musculoskeletal imaging.
Grubelić Crnčević participated in numerous professional meetings and symposia. During her study, she participated in many ESOR (European School of Radiology) exchange scholarships, with special interest in breast and musculoskeletal imaging. She is also a member of the European Radilogy Society and Croatian Radiology Society. She co-authored a vast number of scientific and specialist works.
Marko Slavica, MD, MSc
Clinical radiologist, interventional radiology sub-specialistMarko Slavica graduated from The Faculty of Medicine at the University of Zagreb in 2003. Slavica currently holds the position of Secretary General of the Croatian Neuroradiology Society of the Croatian Medical Association.
After completing an internship at the University hospital centre Sisters of Mercy in Zagreb, he worked as an emergency medicine doctor at the Institute of emergency medicine of the City of Zagreb. He has many years of professional experience acquired at the Clinical Hospital Sisters of Mercy and University hospital Merkur, where his specialist training in clinical radiology began in 2009. His professional postgraduate study in Clinical Radiology at the Faculty of Medicine in Zagreb ended in 2013.
Now, Slavica performs subspecialist training in Croatia and abroad. His narrow field of work is interventional radiology and neuroradiology, vascular diagnostics and minimally invasive procedures in interventional oncology.
As a lecturer, he has been a guest and invited speaker at many Croatian and international congresses, as well as at numerous workshops on interventional radiology, interventional oncology and endovascular surgery.
Slavica is a member of the WFNRS (World Federation of Neuroradiology societies) and a member of numerous national and international professional societies, of which sIRcro (Croatian Section for Interventional Radiology), HDVK (Croatian Vascular Society), CIRSE (Cardiovascular and Interventional Radiological Society of Europe), etc.
Lovro Kavur, MD, MSc
Clinical radiologist, USMB specialistLovro Kavur graduated from The Faculty of Medicine at the University of Zagreb in 2009. During his studies, Kavur won the Dean’s award for the best medical student and the Dean’s award for the best scientific publication.
After obtaining his degree, he finished a one-year internship at Sisters of Mercy University Hospital in Zagreb and then went on to pursue a residency in clinical radiology at University hospital Merkur in Zagreb. He became a radiology specialist and holds this position at Clinical Hospital Merkur in Zagreb to this date. His expertise lies in body CT, abdominal and pelvic MRI, and ultrasound, but he is also considered an esteemed expert in X-ray and fluoroscopy interpretation, as well as Doppler imaging.
Simultaneously with his work in the hospital, he is pursuing a PhD in molecular biology, and he has had co-authored various scientific publications in the field of radiology so far.
During the residency, he spent 3 months at Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, USA, as part of the ESOR Visiting Scholarship Programme in Abdominal Radiology, focusing on body MRI, body CT, and Fusion PET-MRI. In 2016 he did another ESOR /ESGAR Fellowship, while in 2015 Kavur spent three months at the Medical University Vienna, Austria.
Đino Varga, MD, MSc
Clinical radiologist, USMB specialist, neuroradiology sub-specialistĐino Varga graduated in Medicine from The Faculty of Medicine at the University of Zagreb in 1996.
He completed several postgraduate courses in abdominal, breast and thyroid ultrasound imaging, musculoskeletal sonography and doppler ultrasound. As a part of his professional development at the Aviva polyclinic, Varga completed his radiology specialization working at the Clinical Hospital Sisters of Mercy, which lead to his gaining expertise in ultrasound diagnostics, as well as in CT and MRI diagnostics of abdomen, pelvis, spine and brain.
Not only did Varga participate in numerous courses in ultrasound imaging as an invited guest speaker, but he is still an active participant in various congresses. He is a co-author of sixteen books on radiology, including student’s book used by Medicine students. Varga co-authored eight books printed for foreign publishers. Since 2015 he has been working at the Clinical Hospital Sisters of Mercy, becoming a ultrasound and neuroradiology subspecialist.
Rudolf Vukojević, MD, MSc
Clinical radiology specialist, MSS sub-specialistRudolf Vukojević graduated from the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Rijeka in 2010.
He completed his one-year internship at The Special Hospital for Medical Rehabilitation in Krapinske Toplice, Croatia. His specialist training in clinical radiology began at the University hospital centre Sisters of Mercy in 2012. In 2017 Vukojević completed his professional postgraduate study in Clinical Radiology at the Faculty of Medicine in Zagreb.
In November of 2019 Vukojević participated in an observatory rotation at the Department of Radiology & Nuclear Medicine at the Amsterdam UMC (Unviersity Medical Centers), the Netherlands. Today, his narrow field of work is musculoskeletal radiology.
As a lecturer, he has been a guest and invited speaker at a few national congresses and workshops in musculoskeletal radiology. He is a member of Croatian Radiology Society, European Radiology Society and Croatian Neuroradiology Society of the Croatian Medical Association. He is a co-author of a few scientific publications on musculoskeletal system radiology.
Tomislav Letilović MD, Ph.D
Assistant professor, Interventional cardiologistTomislav Letilović graduated from the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Zagreb in 2000. Letilović currently holds the position of Head of the Department of interventional cardiology at University hospital Merkur in Zagreb.
After completing an internship at the Clinical Hospital Centre Zagreb in Zagreb, he worked as a fellow researcher at the Department of pathophysiology at Faculty of Medicine at the University of Zagreb. After that he finished his residency in internal medicine in 2007 and cardiology residency in 2010. He has many years of professional experience acquired at Department of Cardiology University hospital Merkur, where he specialized in the field of interventional cardiology. His interests are also clinical cardiology, echocardiography and pacemakers.
In 2013 he acquired a PhD degree at the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Zagreb. Since 2010 he works as a lecturer at that faculty and is currently in the position of assistant professor in the Department of Internal Medicine. He is also a lecturer for cardiology postgraduate program and is a state approved examiner for cardiology residency final exam.
As a lecturer, he has been a guest and invited speaker at numerous Croatian and international congresses, He published several scientific papers in peer reviewed journals and serves as a reviewer for several international medical journals.
Letilović is a member of the European Society of Cardiology and also a member of several national cardiology associations and workgroups.
Mladen Grgurević, MD, Ph.D
endocrinologistMladen Grgurević graduated from the Medical Faculty of the University of Zagreb in 2005.
After passing the state professional exam in 2007. he started working at the University Clinic Vuk Vrhovac, KB Merkur where he still works today. In 2013 he passed the specialist exam in internal medicine, and since 2017. hi is a subspecialist in endocrinology and diabetology. 2020 holds a PhD from the Faculty of Medicine, University of Zagreb.
He is the author and co-author of several scientific and professional papers and conference abstracts in the field of diabetology and is a member of the Editorial Board of the professional-scientific journal Diabetologiae Croaticae. He is also a member of the Croatian Society for Diabetes and Metabolic Diseases and the European Association for the Study of Diabetes (EASD).
He is currently working at the Day Hospital of the University Clinic Vuk Vrhovac with a special interest in intensive insulin treatment, the use of insulin pumps and sensors for continuous glucose measurement (CSII, SAP, CGM, HCL, AHCL), from which he was in professional and clinical training at several foreign institution (General University Hospital In Prague, 3rd Internal Clinic, Prague, Czech Republic; Center for Diabetes and Metabolism – Fachklinik – Bad Heilbrunn, Germany).
Petra Marinić, MD
General practitionerPetra Marinić graduated from The Faculty of Medicine at the University of Zagreb in 2017. During her schooling she participated and helped during the organization of CROSS – Croatian Student Summit held at the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Zagreb. She also participated in the work of the college library.
After finishing an internship at the Health Center Zagreb West (Dom zdravlja Zagreb Zapad) and passing the state exam she started working as a GP at the Zagreb County Health Center (Dom zdravlja Zagrebačke županije).
During her work in several general practitioner’s offices she gained experience working in general medicine.
